~ Danila Talks Vampire Academy
~Skyping with Mark Waters: I showed him two scenes from Richelle's book 1. The First scene is how really a Dhampir must kill a strigoi. I showed him some gestures and read the text. The Second Scene was about how Dimitri first felt in love with Roza.
~I must show how i see her( Rose), what i am thinking, how I am Looking at her What I am thinking about her.
~Danila Talks VACoWorkers: All the cast was young, (i repeat so young) but all of them are incredibly talented
~They (Dominic & Lucy) are big professionals but they're funny too. They made my hard work easier because both have a great
sense of humor."
~Danila Talks Mark Waters: ''He (Mark Waters) is a super professional! Mega professional! I got a huge irreplaceable
experience during our work! I repeated and will repeat: I'm lucky i
had the chance to work with him''
~''I must say my personal thanks to this amazing writer and
woman. Richelle Mead. She created a very interesting character.
She allowed Dimitri to fall in love, to love & to protect those he
loves! He's a gentleman & i really appreciate it! Thank you,
Richelle ''
Audition Story:
“I got the shooting of this film thanks to a friend of Marci’s. I
went to NYC almost two years ago. I didn’t have plans, I wanted to rest
and learn the language. But my foreign manager Richard Cook said “I want
to show you to some cinematographic people” and I agreed. We met but
that was all. I came back to Russia and worked in native projects. But
once Richard called me and said that one of Marci’s friend told her that
she saw me and liked me. She offered to Marci try me in a new project.
Then Mark called me in Moscow and offered to take part in the Skype
audition. I talked about this many times. The audition was at my
friend’s flat in Moscow. He is an Irish director but now he’s living in
Moscow. I was very confused. Mark spoke very quickly on Skype. I must
say I have a bad habit: If i don’t understand what people tell me, i
just nod my head. When Mark said that i was confirmed for the role of
Dimitri i didn’t understand the word “confirmed” and just nodded my
head. But my Irish friend was very happy. He showed to me the thumps up
and congratulated me very loudly. “But what happened?” – i asked him!
“Guy, you will be shooting in Hollywood!” – he answered. And I only
understood everything in that moment.”
Journalist: Can you compare Vampire Academy with Twilight or Harry Potter, for example?
“I never watched Twilight. But i watched Harry Potter! I’m a real fan
of this story. Once i watched all the Harry Potter movies in a whole
day. (Everyone has a bad day when we want to relax, don’t we?) – Danila
laughs – I can’t compare these movies. Every single one of them has
their own mythology. Maybe i can only say that the main action of these
stories is at schools (or Academy). But i don’t see other points.”
Journalist: How do you think this movie will be
interesting to a wide audience? I mean, for the people who know nothing
about vampires and others? Will this movie be your good work?
“I never think about these things! I just work. Maybe my other roles
weren’t interesting for some people. Maybe people who don’t like
vampires and “others” (Danila laughs) will find some interest in the
movie Vampire Academy. I really don’t know and i don’t want to think
about this. I always remember the word of one famous American actor. He
said: “i don’t think all my roles are important for the cinematographic
world. But always work so that every role of mine will be such!” I like
these words.”
About London:
“I was absolutely fascinated and stunned by this amazing city. I
walked in the different districts of this city and i saw a lot of people
who don’t like each other. In one place, i saw a gentleman in a costume
similar to the tailcoat and ladies wearing incredible hats. Their hats
had a form of buildings and… i can’t describe these (Danila laughs). At
another place i saw people in jeans with holes. But they weren’t
inaccurate, sloppy or untidy. They were free (if you understand what i
mean). This is a free style. I was fascinated.”
Danila on the cinematography industry:
“It was an unforgettable experience for me. I never said that
Hollywood directors or some cinematographic people are better than in
Russia. Maybe i’m lucky, but i always worked only with very interesting
and talented people here and there.”
About language school in NYC:
“I went to the best language school in NY. I will not call its name.
Believe me it’s very famous. I thought that when i finish my study there
i would speak English perfectly. I saw a lot of foreign people who
wanted to learn English like me. But after the first week i understood
that these lessons didn’t make my language better. And not only mine. So
i went to the administrator of the school and said: “i haven’t any
claims but i don’t want to study here.” He answered that was impossible
because i had a student visa and in this case i would have to go out of
the country. I said: “well. Then i’ll be sick!” And i went out of the
school, i walked and talked with people. I went to some bars, bought a
glass of wine and talked with the barman during evenings. And that was a
real language school! Now i have two language teachers in St.
Petersburg. One of them is Russian, he is a great and amazing teacher.
The second is American, his name is Tony and he helped me with my
adaptation of my English language as an American.”
About the cont. of the Vampire Academy shooting (other movies):
“I haven’t watched our whole movie yet, only different scenes. But i
hope that we made a good work and a good movie. And i can say this about
other movies: only you (our audience) can decide if it will be
continued or not. But i always hope for the best.”
