Photos of the 'real' St Vladimir Academy

“We found this school and as soon as we drove onto the campus, I thought that this is Vampire Academy. This is the closest thing I’ve seen to it, to the image in my brain of what this place should look like. You know, a large campus with a lot of interesting buildings and connections to a lot of secret passageways to it. It had the feeling of the school sitting right there already.”

Its Friday and we have a new VAset Visit Interview: Richelle Mead

AUTHOR @RICHELLEMEAD OPENS UP ABOUT HAVING HER BOOK MADE INTO A MOVIE

Richelle Mead is possibly one of the nicest people in the world. She’s an amazing author and loves talking to the fans. We were lucky enough that we caught up with her on the set of Vampire Academy – and she took the time from watching them film her movie to talk to us and our friends from Page to Premiere and Hypable.
We’ve met a lot of authors, and we have to say that Richelle is one of the kindest and most humble. She truly appreciates the fans. We couldn’t be more excited about Vampire Academy.

Must be quite an odd experience, coming to the set of a film based off a book you have written.
Richelle: It’s definitely overwhelming and it’s mind-blowing to me the work that goes into a movie. That’s what astonishes me more than this is my book. I had no idea the level of detail that they do. I mean, I don’t know if you have looked around, but even the handouts on their desk are real assignments. And every piece of clothing. I mean when you think about it there are hundreds of people who gone through that level of detail for my book. That’s just like wow, it’s unbelievable.

All the Q&A answered by Lucy Fry on VA series Facebook

~ How do you think the VA movie will affect the recent perception of vampires in the media?
I think VA will make people see vampires as much more fun

~Lucy how hard it was to play the darkest scenes with Lissa's depression?
L:Yes, that was really hard sometimes. There were days where I had long dark scenes and found it hard to shake the anxiety off at the end of the day. But I had zoey there to cheer me up!

~Was it hard trying to get into the role of Lissa?  Meaning, trying to portray her emotion/ mental pain when she was struggling to understand what was going on with her?
L: I did a lot of preparation before we started filming so that I could get to that place. I trained with a physical theatre coach to feel how the depression sits in my body and to access it from there. As well as the power of spirit, i found that through physical exploration and discovering the different emotions and sensations that happen when I heal. It was quite an intensive process because the pain Lissa goes through when she heals is hard to comprehend.

Author Richelle Mead gets in a group shot with Zoey Deutch and Sarah Hyland during her visit to the Vampire Academy set in England earlier this year.
“[This] was taken within minutes of me getting to set, when a bunch of the cast came over to introduce themselves,” Richelle told JJJ exclusively. “It was pretty surreal since we were right inside a St. Vladimir’s classroom, and everyone was all dressed in their uniforms, ready for school.”
